Decorating is often the final stage of a job and the first thing anyone notices afterwards. Whether it is a single room in a family home, the communal stairwell of an apartment block or a full external repaint, the standard of the finish depends on what happens before the first coat goes on. What our decorating service includes
A1 carries out internal and external redecoration, both as stand-alone projects and as the finishing stage of wider repair or refurbishment work. Typical tasks include:

Because the same team handles preparation and finishing, small defects found along the way, such as a loose skirting board, a section of blown plaster or a leaking gutter staining an external wall, can be repaired rather than painted over.
Preparation before paint
Preparation determines the quality of a finish, so that is where most of the effort goes. Before decoration begins, we assess the condition of each surface, complete minor repairs and making-good, and protect floors, furniture and fittings. Where access equipment is needed for external or high-level areas, it is arranged as part of the job rather than left for the customer to organise.
A1's workforce is directly employed and multi-trade, which changes how decorating projects run in practice. If plaster needs patching, a door needs easing or a socket needs moving before a wall can be painted, those trades come from the same team and are sequenced into the same programme. There are fewer hand-offs between separate contractors, responsibility stays in one place, and the decorator arrives to surfaces that are genuinely ready to decorate.
Decorating in homes, communal areas and workplaces
Much of our decorating work takes place in buildings that stay in use while we are there, and that shapes how each job is planned. In occupied homes, rooms are taken in a sensible order, furniture is protected or moved, and working hours are agreed in advance. For landlords and housing associations, we redecorate tenanted homes, void properties between tenancies, and communal stairwells, corridors and entrance areas on planned cycles.
In schools and colleges, decoration is usually programmed around term dates so classrooms and circulation spaces are ready when pupils return. Offices, shops and other commercial premises can be decorated out of hours or in phases, so the business keeps trading while the work moves through the building. In every setting, the aim is the same: a durable finish, minimal disruption and a tidy handover at the end of each stage.

A1 Maintenance is based in Gloucestershire and carries out decorating work across Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Oxfordshire, Worcestershire, Bristol and Avon. The same in-house team covers the whole region, so standards do not depend on which local subcontractor happens to be available.
Whether the job is one room, a whole property or a rolling programme across several sites, work starts with a clear scope: what will be prepared, what will be repaired, which finishes will be used and how the space will be protected while work is under way. That scope becomes the basis of the quotation and the programme, so there is no ambiguity about what has been priced and what will be handed back on completion.
